UEW’s history is marked by the merger of seven diploma-awarding colleges, including the Advanced Teacher Training College, Specialist Training College, and National Academy of Music all in Winneba; the School of Ghana Languages in Ajumako; the College of Special Education in Akwapim-Mampong; the Advanced Technical Training College in Kumasi; and the St. Andrews Agricultural Training College in Asante-Mampong. This consolidation created a diverse and dynamic educational institution.
The enactment of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development Act (2020), Act 1026, in 2020 marked another pivotal moment in UEW’s journey, restructuring UEW for the ever-evolving educational landscape.
At the heart of our mission lies a deep commitment to the advancement of teacher education. We are proud to provide higher education and drive the systematic development of both the science and the art of teaching. We aim to nurture the next generation of educators, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required to excel in diverse educational settings, from preschool to senior secondary school, and even in non-formal education institutions.
